Studio Photos

For several years, we had the honor of a royalty commission, creating
large playground animals, called Park Pets, for Sport Rock Intl. Here’s the
whole herd in the back lot. They were enlargements from one of my series
that I called Angel Animals, hence the wings.

Several Park Pets, ready to go to Sport Rock ITL

The understructure for the Park Pet Cat. First, the basic armature,
covered with expanded metal lathe. If you look carefully, you will see the original maquette, the small-sized sculpture, which the enlargement was based upon.

Here’s a view of Paula’s beloved painting studio, a bit messy and crowded, but still my favorite place. There’s a poster of a painting by Henri Matisse in there. Can you find it?

A study of Theodore Roosevelt.

He’s not wearing his signature wire glasses yet.

In progress, sculpture for the Old Mission in Santa Barbara, California.

The bear is nearly done, and the woman can now be finished.

Knowing exactly where the woman’s hand will fit on the Bear’s back was the important thing to know before moving on.

The foam understructure is detailed out with the cellulose-fiber sculpting compound, “Sculptamold,” which Paula loves to use on projects like this.

That’s all for now.
